I feel a lot better after looking at the schedule a second time and realizing Cardio Jam was a high intensity class.
I thought I was in shape, or at the very least, on the way to being in shape. As it turns out, I am still way out of my league when it comes to high intensity class. But they make me want to work at it until I'm not anymore.
Cardio Jam is a mixed bag, and the website tells you that. You never know what you're going to get in terms of specificities, but at the very least, you know you're going to get the cardio workout of your life. Kathy is making it clear to me that rest is not going to be an option in any of her classes. Ours began with stepping, similar to Kathleen's Step Combo class. It was fast paced, but easy to grasp. That was probably my favorite part of her class: while I didn't always feel I had the stamina to continue, I knew that I could at least accomplish the moves. She combined steps with weight lifting and abs to create one massive cardio workout. My heart rate was high the entire time!
One of the best things about high intensity classes is the people. On the one hand, I admire their strength. It helps me know that I can get there one day. On the other, they, too, have weaknesses. They, too, complain after 5 minutes of crunches. It grounds me and reminds me that we're all just human beings, which comforts me. These people who take and teach these classes aren't superhuman; they're just people, like any of us, and we can all get to that level of athleticism eventually.
