The Siegel JCC 90th Annual Meeting

Posted by: Siegel JCC on Thursday, August 1, 2024

On Monday, June 10, the Siegel Jewish Community Center (JCC) held its annual meeting, marking a significant transition in leadership and a renewed commitment to its mission. The evening was filled with reflections on the past year’s accomplishments, the celebration of dedicated volunteers, and the introduction of new leadership.

The highlight of the evening was the transition of leadership as Beth Moscow-Schnoll handed over her gavel to the incoming co-presidents, Stacy Horowitz and Phil Epstein. This change in leadership required an amendment to the JCC’s by-laws to allow for two presidents, a move that underscores the collaborative spirit of the organization.

Under Beth’s leadership, the Siegel JCC has seen tremendous growth and adaptation. The last year alone was filled with so many highlights. The JCC has seen significant growth and improvement across all programs, with record participation and numerous campus enhancements. These include our new Shalom Central pavilion, outdoor resurfacing and the addition of lights to the Pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts, and so much more. Our community is thriving more than ever.

Beth’s tenure was marked by a deep commitment to the community, and her contributions will be remembered fondly. As she passed the gavel, Beth expressed her confidence in Stacy and Phil’s ability to lead the JCC into a new era.

Stacy Horowitz, who previously served as the Director of the Early Childhood Center during a transitional period in 2005, is known for her dedication to service and relationship building. Stacy aims to foster a culture of abundance within the JCC, emphasizing the importance of community connections and mutual support.

Phil Epstein’s connection to the JCC movement runs deep, beginning with his childhood at the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill, NJ, where his father served as President. Phil’s sister, Judy, was President of the Siegel JCC from 1986 to 1988, making his service a family tradition. Phil is particularly focused on the Siegel JCC campus, including the rebuild process following the loss of the Camp/Aquatics building due to a fire. He is committed to ensuring the campus remains a vibrant and welcoming space for all.

The meeting also celebrated the achievements of several outstanding members through the presentation of three prestigious awards. Gene Castellano received the President’s Award in recognition of his extensive contributions over the past two years. Gene’s involvement with the Finance and IT Committees, along with his role as co-chair of the Campus Facilities Management Board, has had a significant impact on the JCC’s operations and facilities.

The Barbara Weiner Emerging Leadership Award was presented to Katie Sherry, whose dedication to the JCC is truly remarkable. Katie, alongside her son Joseph, has been an active and engaged member, contributing tirelessly to various events and initiatives. Her commitment to the JCC exemplifies the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, or repairing the world.

The Seth Bloom Community Leadership Award was given to Gina and Josh Schoenberg. Gina, a thoughtful and dedicated member of the Board of Directors, has played a key role in several fundraising events. Josh has co-chaired the Sports Classic for many years, significantly contributing to its success. Together, they also co-chaired the 2024 Mini & Junior Maccabi Games, strengthening the Jewish community in the region.

The Siegel JCC Annual Meeting was a testament to the organization’s enduring commitment to community, leadership, and growth. With new leaders at the helm and a renewed mission, the JCC is poised for another year of success and meaningful impact.
