Class Descriptions

We've got a class for every style of workout -- from upbeat to relaxing to strength-building group classes (including Yoga, Pilates, Spin, Barre, Bootcamp, Zumba, Water Aerobics, and more!) Group classes are included in your membership, so hop in and have some fun! 

What We Offer

All Core

This is a 30-minute class that focuses on core strengthening. Participants of this class can use a chair to sit or hold on to for a beginner-friendly workout, or they can participate in the class with a mat on the floor for a more intense workout.

Aqua Zumba

Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance. There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step helps tone your muscles. It's one pool party you don't want to miss!

Aqua Deep

This is a higher intensity, deep-water class focusing on resistance training in the water and set to fun music.

BOOT CAMP

60-minute high intensity class consisting of interval cardio and plyometric drills and strength training. Modifications and options are available for beginners.

CiRCUIT TRAINING

A full body strength and endurance class where participants move from one station to another, doing the exercises at each station using interval timing. This class uses a variety of fitness equipment and training styles. Modifications and more challenging options are offered to make this class appropriate for all fitness levels. 

Chair Mindfulness & Movement

A practice that modifies yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair and/or using the chair as support while standing. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or may lack the stability to stand without support or the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Some benefits of this practice are improved flexibility, concentration, strength, balance, mobility and joint stability. Center for Active Living Members are welcome to attend this class.

Cycle to the Beat

No impact, moderate to high intensity workout on a stationary Keiser M3 bike. Class incorporates flat surfaces and hills paced to the beat of the music.

JFIT FOR LIFE

A low to medium intensity class that focuses on strength and balance. Chairs, exercise bands, dumbbells, and sandbags are utilized in order to achieve optimal fitness. Participants are encouraged to do what they can, and modifications are offered as needed in a no-pressure, supportive group environment. Center for Active Living Members are welcome to attend this class. 

Mindfulness & Meditation

Join us as we explore quieting the mind through guided meditations, breath work, mantras and affirmations.

MOVE IT OR LOSE IT

A medium intensity fitness class designed to get your heart rate up through the fun of line dancing. Standard songs include the Electric Slide, the Cupid Shuffle, and the Hokie Pokie. Dance routines are simple and enjoyable, so no experience is needed. Center for Active Living Members are welcome to attend this class. 

MUSCLE PUMP

Muscles grow before your eyes! Work all of your muscle groups! Small and large movements with and without weights help build stronger muscles and bones. This class is designed for all fitness levels. Modifications are available for beginners and exercises can be adapted to higher intensity by adding additional weight. Fun music is included to help motivate and keep you pumping.

Ninja Bootcamp

This class will help build total body strength and stamina, mastering calisthenic movements such as pull-ups and pushups with creative, fun workouts. Along the way you will develop core and grip strength and discover that being strong is fun and moving your body is enjoyable. Whether you can do 10+ pull-ups or are struggling to hang from a bar, there is room for you in this class and you will see results!

PILATES

Strengthening and firming the core muscles, as well as the upper body. Posture, flexibility, coordination, and breathing are improved. This method, developed by Joseph Pilates, is based on eastern and western movement principals. This class practices the exercises on the floor on mats.

PILATES Fusion

Feel stronger with this fun Pilates fusion workout! Mixing mat-work, dance and barre, this class will feature exciting variety that keeps your body guessing and provides functional strengthening and toning.

POUND 

Pound® is a cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. Using Ripstix®, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND® transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out.

Power Lift

Get stronger and feel powerful in this low impact strength training class. Using a variety of equipment and your own body weight, you'll sculpt lean muscle in your whole body.

Qi Gong

Qi Gong is a series of slow, gentle movements that incorporates the body, mind and breath. Regular practice offers a range of health and wellness benefits and is appropriate for all fitness levels.

SENIOR WATER AEROBICS 

Low impact, low intensity activity perfect for loosening muscles and joints. Our instructors use Arthritis Association sanctioned exercises in the class. Perfect for Senior Center Members! 

SENIOR DEEP WATER AEROBICS 

Arthritis Association sanctioned, low impact exercises in deep water that focus a little more on aerobics. Perfect for Senior Center Members! 

SOULBODY BARRE

SoulBody Barre is a full body class that is a combination of pilates, yoga, traditional strength training, set to motivating music. Barre classes are known for their “pulses” which are small movements designed to tone the body. This class trains muscular endurance, strength, balance, flexibility, body awareness and coordination. 

SPIN

30/60/90 minute ride –cardio with no impact. A moderate to high intensity workout on a stationary Keiser M3 bike. A variety of motivational music is used to simulate riding on flat rolling, steep & winding surfaces.

STRONG 30 + STRENGTH

Stop counting the reps. Start training to the beat. STRONG combines kickboxing, body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every move is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more. Following the Strong workout, we will end the class with strength/toning exercises using light-to-medium weights.  

Sweat to the beat

Sweat to the Beat is exercise in disguise! With modifications available for beginner and advanced participants, this music-based workout includes cardio and core moves using lightly weighted drumsticks, dancing, kickboxing and more. You will burn calories, challenge your strength, sculpt your body and tone your muscles through every beat... and have so much fun that you will forget you're exercising! This is a family-friendly class, children 5+ are welcome to participate while accompanied by an adult.

Strength & Balance

This class uses various forms of equipment to strengthen the whole body. Balance work is also included. Participants of this class can use a chair to sit or hold on to for a beginner-friendly workout, or they can participate in the class with a mat on the floor for a more intense workout.

TKO Cardio Boxing

Cardio boxing is a fitness workout that combines boxing techniques like punching with cardio exercise. It is designed to improve cardiovascular endurance, strength, agility, and coordination while providing a full-body workout.

Toned to the core

Toned to the Core is a 45–50-minute class designed to strengthen the body and improve balance and posture by primarily targeting core muscles. The exercises are inspired by disciplines such as Mat Pilates, Yoga and others. Small pieces of equipment are sometimes used. This class is suitable for all levels. The movements are slow, intentional and precise, with emphasis on body awareness and breath. 

TOTAL BODY

A full body strength and endurance class that uses a variety of fitness equipment and various training methods such as traditional resistance training, power lifting, cardio, and pilates. This class offers modifications for beginners as well as more challenging options for advanced exercisers. 

TRX

TRX is a form of suspension training that uses body weight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It requires the use of the TRX Suspension Trainer, a performance training tool that leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to complete the exercises. This class welcomes beginners and intermediate TRX participants who enjoy medium to high-intensity workouts. Each class builds upon exercises learned previously, allowing for progressive, personalized options for each movement. The equipment allows for modifications, so this class is excellent for people with or without physical limitations. 

trx lite

TRX is a form of suspension training that uses body weight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. TRX Lite is a lower-intensity version of the class, perfect for those who are new to TRX or those who are looking for a shorter, less intense version of the other TRX classes on our schedule.

WATER AEROBICS 

Perfect for obtaining aerobic exercise in a low impact environment. Our class focuses on stretching and loosening joints which can help with physical therapy, tight muscles, and arthritis. 

YOGA (all levels)

Open to the beginner as well as the seasoned practitioner. If one can breathe, then one can do Yoga. Poses are adapted to suit the individual participant’s needs. We focus on moving the body in various planes of movement to promote healing and restoration. Each class will conclude with a relaxation/meditation portion which can be done seated or lying down.

YOGA (Chair)

A practice that modifies yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair and/or using the chair as support while standing. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or may lack the stability to stand without support or the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Some benefits of this practice are improved flexibility, concentration, strength, balance, mobility and joint stability. Center for Active Living Members are welcome to attend this class. 

yoga (flow)

Mindful dynamic movement synchronized with breath. This class is designed to help you develop body awareness, strength and balance, connecting mind, body, and soul. Suitable for practitioners with previous yoga experience. This is a more vigorous class, but modifications are available for many of the poses.

Yoga (SLOW FLOW)

Mindful and deliberate movement synchronized with breath. This class will allow you to move your body in various planes of movement to promote healing and restoration and develop body awareness, strength, length and balance; connecting mind, body, and soul. Poses are adapted to meet the individual participant’s needs and are suitable for all levels.

YOGA (YIN)

A slow-paced style of yoga as exercise, incorporating principals of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles to help relieve pain and tension.

ZUMBA

Zumba! A high energy, variable impact dance fitness medium inspired by Latin dance moves using music from around the world, as well as popular music you can sing along with! Great for all levels and easy to modify.
