Playing sports at the J is a great way to get in shape, have fun, and participate in our community. Whether you join one of our sports teams or drop in for some friendly pick-up games, the J has something for everyone!
Along with our fitness center and group fitness classes, the J offers a variety of sports open to all members (basketball, pickleball, rock wall, racquetball, tennis, volleyball, softball, JLoop, floor hockey, and batting cages). Members are welcome to come for free play during fitness center hours or participate in pick-up games. In addition, our recreational game area includes a ping pong table, air hockey, and foosball.

Our full court gymnasium provides members with many fitness opportunities including open basketball and pickup games. “Open Gym” indicates that the gym is available to shoot baskets or exercise. Pick-up basketball games games are open to 20 members and guests.
Pickleball is a lively racket game for all ages and abilities. Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickleball paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. Equipment is available to borrow at the Fitness Desk.
Pickleball can be played with singles or doubles. The ball is served diagonally (starting with the right-hand service-square), and points can only be scored by the side that serves. Players on each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net, to prevent “spiking.” The server continues to serve, alternating service courts, until he or she faults. The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two points wins.
Our 25ft Climbing Wall is open to climbers 5 years and older who are accompanied by a J certified belayer. All climbers MUST be belayed; free climbing is not allowed. For questions and wall availability, contact Carrie Kee at firstname.lastname@example.org.

The J has a racquetball court available to our members open the same hours as our Fitness Center. Court times can be reserved, free of charge, by calling us at 302-478-5660.
Do you love tennis? Are you looking to get back into the game? Then we want you! Ladies Cup 8 and 9 are looking for subs for the 2018-2019 season! Both teams meet 1x a week for practice as well as 1x a week for matches. We are actively recruiting subs for both teams for our Spring season beginning April 1 ending June 5. Team/Sub members must be a JCC member or a tennis member of the JCC. Practice times and matches are dependent on the Cup Team. See you on the court! Our outdoor softball field is home to softball, baseball, and kickball games. Members are welcome to utilize our field anytime during fitness center hours. Pick-Up softball games occur during our summer months every Sunday from 10 AM-12 PM. The purpose of the community softball program is to have fun and burn a few calories… ALL levels of talent/skills are welcome!

The J is bringing fitness to a new level! It’s time to take your workout OUT on the JLoop, our multi-purpose outdoor track with two outdoor workout equipment stations!
This member-accessible fitness facility is designed for people who are interested in all kinds of fitness activities. The track is 1/2 mile and runs along the perimeter of our outdoor campus. It also features two, weather-resistant fitness equipment stations for an additional way to feel the burn! You haven’t seen anything like this!
Our full court gymnasium is home to the Delaware 30+ Floor Hockey Group. The group meets at our gymnasium every Thursday from 7:30-9:30 PM beginning on August 29. Games are open to anyone, but priority is given to group members who play regularly, J members, and adults older than 30. Anyone interested in playing hockey for fun is welcome. Experience isn’t necessary but welcomed. Equipment needed includes running shoes and a composite stick or a wooden stick with a plastic blade. Eye protection is recommended. The J is proud to announce our 36′ batting cage! Our cage is a great option for J members, little league teams, and baseball enthusiasts of all ages to practice their swings and improve their hand-eye coordination.
Reserving the Batting Cage
The batting cage is open by reservation only during regular J hours, at no charge for current J members. Accompanying guests are subject to regular guest fees. Rental for community members (including little league teams) is $15 per half hour, with no additional guest fees. Contact the fitness desk at 302-478-5664 to reserve your space.
